I am a RN and over the years I have had several different health insurances provided by my employers. I think that good health insurance starts with the kind of coverage that is provided for patients that focus on trust in the physicians and health promotion and educations. I believe that a PCP should be able to decide with the patient what is best for them, not the health insurance. I have had both kinds. I believe that most MDs are respondsible when making decisions for their patients and should be allowed the freedom to decide what the best plan of care should be. I have a very good PCP and want to keep him. He doesn't milk the system at all. As a home health nurse I have also worked with him and many other physicians in deciding what the best aproach is for their patients and helped the patients understand their options and why their physicians recommend a particular plan of care. Some insurances offer a lot of education with their programs. I think these insurances that trust their physicians and offer education programs about major medical issues and diagnoses are the best. Even as a nurse for 30 years, I too can always use more education. That is what I look for in an insurance: Fair cost, low copays, lots of education and health promotion programs.
Thanks for asking! Sincerely, C. Loveland RN., BSN
