Within the past two years, the company provided health insurance was lost due to company closing. A COBRA offered extension was to have been $700.00 per month for the two of us. As I was out of work, $700.00 was not affordable at the time nor is it an amount most people could afford even with a full time job. As an independant contractor, much of my work is a feast or famine propspect. and as a result of this there have been times when income was very lean. The high cost of insurance along with a typically high deductable is something most people can not afford. It also appears as if a bait and switch tactic is emplyed on occasion as I have paid for certain coverage only to find certain coverages were not covered
